Well, sort of, and also, no. But wouldn't it be great if it was?

The name came to me one day as the perfect mash-up of my nickname-since-childhood (Mandy) and the colorful vibe of a famous pop artist (Andy Warhol). I thought it was kind of funny and easy-to-remember, and Mandy Warhol Fine Art was born!

Without getting too technical, giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is the gold-standard inkjet printing process for fine art reproduction. Giclée printing results in long-lasting, archival prints that are faithful to the subtle tones and colors in an original artwork. And here's an interesting factoid: Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young had a hand in developing this process at his print lab, Nash Editions, in the 1990s! So that's pretty cool, too.

Once I've decided upon what image I want to collage, I start by painting newsprint paper in colors I think I might need (I also have a stash of papers from previous collages that I can use). I generally use acrylics for easy clean-up, and have been known to employ a paint pen here and there for tiny details. Then I sketch out my picture and use it as a template for cutting pieces of painted paper to glue onto a thicker cardstock. I like to work on the small side: most originals are 4x6" or a little bigger. I use tiny scissors, a lot of tracing paper, boatloads of glue sticks (I'm partial to the disappearing purple kind!) and a good playlist or podcast to keep me inspired. There is also quite a bit of tea involved, especially in the late afternoon (PG Tips, for inquiring minds). Sometimes my orange cat will join me in the studio and snuggle up on a green chair in there, for company.
